Was just thinking the other day that my Moral Compass probably has been defined more by Star Trek than by any other single source including Religion and maybe even my parents!
Having to build new decks for a Star Trek tournament on the 2nd wkd of November. Derek, Tony and I are travelling to London for the UK Nationals and the European Biermeister Championships. Should be fun, and I'll be taking a few extra days off to make a proper holiday of it.

| In review of Pick-Up styles |
[24 Jun 2009|04:52pm] |
So as far as I can see there are two ways of picking up a girl: 1) The American Way: You ask them out on a date. 2) The Irish Way: You meet them in Pub/Nighclub, snog, get number and if you remember the next day you give them a call/txt.
On the outside of it the American way seems much more civilised. But looking back I realise its never actually been successful for me (or at least not as much as the Irish Way).
I asked my Hot Landlady out on a date; just cut me down with a look that said never ask me again. I asked a girl in work; told me she was practically married; despite flirting with me the whole time (I guess flirting is fun for some and a means to an ends for others) I asked a girl in my Gaming Society; she laughs in my face. I asked a girl in my Hockey Club; she tells me no she is seeing someone, though I was fairly certain she was single (I learnt to ask in advance ever since the Work Incident; perhaps it was an easy let down).
But since I'm getting too old for the Irish Way these days. I guess I shall just have to persevere.

| Random Update |
[01 Mar 2009|05:35pm] |
So on Friday one of the girls in work decides they haven't been out in ages and are looking to get a gang going out for the Final Fecking Friday in Fecking February. With a title like that I couldn't refuse.
We went to the Chinese for some soakage and then we hit the pub. Was able to watch the match as well which ended well for us. Had a good indepth talk with one of the girls from work who I think is purty, but she is spoken for and it turns out she is a lot younger than I thought (like 22 which might be stretching it a little for a 28 like me). But then I did a foolish thing and asked her to guess my age and she said 30! I do NOT look 30.
Anyway we moved onto the only Nightclub in town, I found myself acting as wingman to one of the ladz, his girl was in her mid-30s (so was he) but the other girl who I was talking to was about 40! Gah! Anyway it turns out she was a recent divorcee who wasn't ready to get back on the horse. Fine by me.
Later towards the end of the night, there was a slightly drunken altercation between two of my workmates, one of whom I feel very protective of as she is so sweet. I felt like barging in and kicking your mans ass but the incident wasn't a physical one, wasn't any of my business and she seemed like she could handle it but it wasn't any easier. It ended well enough so "Alls well..."
So then on Saturday I dose myself with drugs and get ready to head for Cork to watch the game, and who do I bump into but Zarkia! WTF she is such a city bird I never thought I would see her west of the border. She'd quit her job again, but then that is just normal for Zarkia I guess. Next time I'm up the country I'll have to drop by and say hi.
At least the match ended in our favour. Just about. But that is the last of my disposable income for a while as my car insurance was up and it cost me €450 full comp with 5 years no claims. Fiddlesticks.

| My Christmas |
[31 Dec 2008|12:45am] |
Well in the week before Christmas I has a pletora of parties I had to go to given that i skipped both my work ones. First I had my Hockey Christmas Party, which was nice I managed to maneuver myself next to one of the girls I like (Shes a physio and does other sports so she is fair fine). We got on well. Then on the Thursday I had one with my work team which is much better than the official work do since I know everyone and everyone knows me so they know not to get offended when I put my foot in it. That was great. Then on the Friday I had a half day off work, went playing a quick round in Dooks. The wind was about 90km/h on the coast so you can imagine how that affected the golf, but one of the lads on my team was a member so he was experienced enough to get us into 2nd and I won a hamper and a gammon ham which we are going to have on Thursday for New Years. Then finally I went with some family to a dinner do in Kenmare Bay. The food was savage but the night not so much.
Then for the rest of Chrstmas Week I did essentially nothing, managed to finish the last book in the Kerensky series of BT (the ones where the Clans show up for the first time). Decent books, Justin Allard was my favourite character from the previous series and his son carries on that mantle. From Santa I got Gears of War 2 and Fable 2. I finished Gears2 last night, pretty crazy shit did happy and I don't think any other FPS has you spend so much time in other creatures. but riding the Bumrak was cool. As for Fable, I did my usual for this type of game, create two characters, 1) A Light side Female and 2) a Dark side Male. Oh and if I ever have to spend 10 years to rescue a guy I don't know, then fuck him let him rot. I got myself Fallout 3 for Christmas, hopefully it will be better than Oblivion even though they are essentially the same engine. I also got myself Xbox LIVE (well a 3 month gold subscription came with teh wireless adaptor, which by the way was a bitch to connect but now its all good), it wouldn't let me use my existing Xbox profile Thanatos elNyx, so I created a second Online only profile Thanatos onNyx, but unfortunately it doesn't have all the acheivements my other profile does. Anyone know if I can merge?
Well I think I've rambled enough.

| So I'm online again |
[21 Nov 2008|11:43pm] |
My parents finally decided to get broadband. Since I'm home most weekends I'll be able to catch up once a week.
No real news in 58 weeks!
Except that my little sis got married, my uncle got hitched in Poland, I bought a shiny laptop, both my sisters and my new Polish aunt are preggers, I'll be the Godfather of one of them due Jan 19th and he'll be named Cillian, my new aunt is expecting twins, my job is only deadended 2 days a week as I am now doing 3 days a week in IT, been to Florida, Berlin and Krakow this year, my bro is back from Oz and isn't back 5 minutes before getting a new girlfriend (why can't I do that!?), finished Bioshock: its awesome, started Ninja Gaiden 2: Can't be bothered trying to get past 2nd level boss.
Might update more when I think of it.

| I am not dead |
[11 Oct 2007|08:31pm] |
I was just caught a few too many times using the internet inside at work and now have been completely banned from using it for non-work shenanigans.
Not much news in all that time though which is slightly depressing. Went to Berlin. It was cool. Got kicked out of accommodation, found newer better accommodation. Yea!
Only problem with the new accoms is that my Landlady is a FOX! (6 foot tall - redhead, my dream lady) I likes her but I really don't want to lose my new gaff which lets me fall out of bed into work. If I asked her out and if it failed and if she demanded I leave, it would be back to home for me which is too much of a step backward! I don't want to work a friend angle as I'll just end up as a friend which is useless to me.
And away!

| So... |
[21 Jun 2007|03:36pm] |
I'm introduced to this girl called Eleanor and the first thing I think of, isn't "God shes hawt" (which she is) but "Isn't there an Edgar Allen Poe poem called Eleanor?"
WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!? I'm not even an English student.
In other news, to BBQ or not to BBQ that is the question. The weather is not so bad here in Kerry but I wouldn't trust it not to rain and there fore soak me on the walk home. I could always not drink, and then I could drive my shiny car.
Oh didn't I mention I bought me a new 05 Skoda Octavia. Its silver and much bigger than my old Punto. I likes it.
I also bought Trauma Centre, Children of Mana and Advance Wars: Dual Strike.
Trauma Centre = 7/10. Very difficult as you have to be fast with the stylus. Since getting the other 2 games I haven't summoned the will to try that last operation again. Treating 5 patients in 10 minutes sounds easy until you realise it takes you 3 minutes to do the first and the others only get harder!
Children of Mana = 4/10. Fun for the first 10 minutes but then you realise its just a pretty and cute Diablo. Nothing wrong with Diablo, I love it but in Children of Mana it doesn't seem to matter what character you make they all play the same (All combaty when I prefer my Magic characters when I play an RPG).
Advance Wars: Dual Strike = 9/10. Lots of Fun but then one point off was that they don't always explain what you are supposed to acheive in each mission which as often as not don't matter as all you have to do is wipe out your opponent. But looking forward to playing Multiplayer.

| So I bought a DS Lite... |
[13 Jun 2007|12:38pm] |
and I also got the obligatory Mario Kart. I've been playing them for the last 2 weeks almost non-stop and have completed most of Mario Kart, in that everything is unlocked except for some Staff Ghosts.
So now I needs a new game. I managed to order a Pokemon on eBay for cheap enough so hopefully I'll get that soon but until then I ws thinking of just popping out to the shop and getting a game. I knows its more expensive but at least I'll have the game rather than waiting for delivery.
So any recommendations from any DS peeps?
Some games I was recommended include FFIII, Ace Attorney and Advance Wars. Anyone played these?
Thanks and Laterz.

| An Evening with Kevin Smith... |
[05 Apr 2007|01:39pm] |
I borrowed this off a friend and I have to say it is very good(I especially like teh Prince and the Superman stories). Kevin Smith is a natural storyteller and a very funny and likable guy. Though what was a little tough to watch was teh first half of teh first disc that was almost exclusively people coming to the mic(No Pun intended) and offering to suck his dick!
Most disturbing was teh guy who wanted a copy of the Jason Mews (Jay) porn tape and gave an ejaculatory sign when Kevin asked if he wanted it. Ewww!

| The weekend |
[02 Apr 2007|01:58pm] |
On Friday I went to see 300. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would but I think the hype I heard from other people ruined it for me. Still liked it though but I think I prefered Sin City. I had set my Odometer in my car to zero as I left Killorglin on friday. It now reads 302 miles. 2 of those miles were my drive into work this morning. Spooky.
On Saturday, played a new version of my Maquis Deck. Didn't work, so now have to work on something new for the TOC on Saturday coming. Spent the evening playing Halo and learnted James and Derek, though we tried the bombing game and being outnumbered meant alot more than having the superior skill. Oddball and King of the Hill were more evenly matched.
Sunday, played in a world wide event for BattleTech in Limerick. We were Word of Blake with some shinys against the Highlanders. We had lots of new tech but were well outgunned so it was a little farcical. Highlight for me was my 1 remaining guy (Cassius Montague) getting 50% of our Kills(4 Total) by punting the head off of two opposing mechs. No small feat at the best of times but this was when both target and targeter were jumping into woods!

| Heroes... |
[27 Mar 2007|03:24pm] |
Well I have started watching this show and its looking pretty decent as of the moment.
However in a repeat of the Preacher incident, I have watched the episodes out of all order! The order so far is thusly: 1,2,4,5,6,1,2,3,7,4. There are some repeats there as I mix TV epidodes with DVD episodes.
Anyway, the series is looking good and I like Hiro as my favourite character and he is potentially the most powerful.
[Aside] The Preacher thingy was when during my Third Year exams for college I was sleeping on the couch in the Guild House and I read the entire Preacher series out of order (4,5,6,1,2,3,7,8,9) despite the fact I shoulda been studing for my exams.

| Just browsing Dell... |
[15 Mar 2007|12:25pm] |
and saw these: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor (2.4GHz, 1066MHz, 4MB) Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6600 Processor (2.4GHz, 1066MHz, 4MB)
Anyone know what Viiv is? There was no info on that site!
I was just looking to see what there was there. It would definately have to be a gaming rig.
Also I saw there was an option for 4x 1024 RAM. Is this not a little excessive? The graphics card was only 256M nVidia. That can handle Directx 10 right?
Any thoughts appreciated. Apologies for the crass display of ignorance.
